Customer Stories - Judith Magee

Judith tells us why she loves her little cowrie shell earrings. The original cowrie I cast was given to me by a friend of a friend, a family who spent a lot of their childhood on the beach collecting cowries and other shells. Although they are small they are tactile, substantial and rather cute. It is lovely to hear Judith talk about cowries with the same fondness as the original beach-comber. Judith’s cowries have darker details as they have been through an oxidising process for the vintage vibe.

These earrings remind me of a particular beach holiday when my son was very  young.  He and my mother-in-law went for a walk and found handfuls of cowrie shells, they brought them back, counted and washed them…

Judith

Judith is a fellow instagram fan and although we haven’t met we are local. She spends her time at home in Richmond, Surrey and in France in her beautiful beach house in Brittany where she spends 3-4 months a year. She loves cooking for her husband, daughter (and sometimes the dog!), and when possible she makes big Sunday lunches for her sons and their lovely partners. She makes seasonal preserves, bake cakes and has joined the lockdown love of sourdough.

“I came across Kate @GraceandFlora’s beautiful Instagram feed a few years ago, we have several Insta friends in common, and I like her, am a fan both of the Petersham Nurseries and Ham House (she has delightful photographs  of both on her squares!)

I love her floral jewellery and plan to buy a few more pieces later this year, but I chose these superb cowrie earrings especially for my house in Brittany, where I keep them.  It’s lovely to know that they’re waiting here for me when I’m in Richmond.

These gorgeous earrings remind me of a particular beach holiday when my son was very  young.  He and my mother-in-law went for a walk and found handfuls of cowrie shells, they brought them back, counted and washed them.  All these years later my sister-in-law still has them and more, sitting in a jar in her Irish holiday home.

I love spending time by the sea, and feel especially fortunate that I have been able to get here this summer.  I love wearing the earrings with my silver bangles and a pretty seaside necklace which a dear friend gave me a many years ago.  I think Kate’s shell  necklace would be a great addition to my beachhouse jewellery, it’s on my Christmas Wish List!

When I ordered my cowrie earrings from Kate I was thrilled with the service she offered.  The earrings were rapidly dispatched, and sent in the most delightful wrapping, they’re beautifully crafted and a delight to wear.”
