Inspiration - Mussels on Port Isaac Beach
I am lucky enough to visit Cornwall every year, especially Port Isaac where I meet my family annually for a get-together. There is nothing quite like the sand between your toes, scanning the beach for tiny treasures, and being swept around in the salty waves. It was here that I picked up a little mussel shell that ended up cast in silver in my collection, along with a crab claw for which Port Isaac is famous.
When I am filling and polishing the shells for customers in my workshop it transports me to Cornwall. I love the way the shells curl slightly to one side, like the curl of a way, the tactile hollow underneath just big enough for a little finger. I add a peacock grey pearl to honour the mussels bluish hue.
